Burbot

LOPHIUS PISCATORIUS

Burbots or anglers live on soft bottoms up to 1000 metres deep. Blessed with perfect mimicry, they catch their prey by lying in wait and attracting them with the ‘fishing filament’ on their head: terminating in a lappet [flap of skin], the filament acts as a lure.
