Dusky Grouper
EPINEPHELUS MARGINATUS
These fish live for 40 to 50 years. They live on rugged rocky bottoms, taking refuge in caves that they only leave in order to seek food. They are voracious predators, hunting fish, molluscs and crustaceans. They change sex as they age, starting off female (for 5 to 10 years), then becoming male. This species has been protected in France for 15 years and populations are now gradually re-forming.
